I'll never forget that Easter morning 18 years ago. I knew
when the nurse first let me see you that my life would
never be the same. Time has gone by so fast. I am so proud
of you. I admire you for not being a follower. You are
your own person and that's something to be proud of. I
love you very much and wish you a happy 18th birthday!
Love-Mom
As I think back over the last 18 years there are many "Kolby
stories," not to mention "spring meat" "Governor Tombs,"
or his most recent a "humidifier" for his cigars. But my
favorite memories are those that describe Kolby's
character & personality. He showed me his character one
day when he was trying to put a positive spin on his mid
term grade in which he received an "F" in one of his
classes. In "Kolby's world" he tried to explain to his
mother that he might have gotten an F but (Kolby always
has a but)" it was a high F." She was not having his
explanation and I thought to myself this kid is destined
to be a lawyer. In fairness he did manage to get a
C on his report card.
His personality can be summed up as easy going. In fact
I used to describe Kolby as my "water boy." Just like
water flowing it meanders along taking the path of least
resistance, those who really know Kolby know from where I
am coming. This past Spring Break Kolby was working with
me and I commented to him that molasses on a 20 degree day
was faster than he. To which he replied "I enjoy the
journey rather than the destination." I could not help but
to laugh. But seriously the past 18 years have flown by
and like his mother I am extremely proud of him and the
fact that he is truly his "own man."
I love you Kolby, "Happy 18th"--Dad
